The Planet Forge is a Xel'Naga structure used to convert worlds into whatever form they chose.
Powered by Bioforce energy and Protomatter, these structures are responsible for forming countless worlds that support life throughout the universe. Once the process has started, it cannot be stopped by anything short of a force equal to several supernovas.
After the Xel'Naga were defeated by the Zerg, possession of all known Planet forges and related technology felt to the Vaul. With it, they constructed multiple hidden bases throughout the Koprulu Sector. Some of these bases range from small cities to entire planets. As the power needed to convert celestial bodies is huge, the Vaul usually deploy the use of planet forges far away from even the most advanced technological and psionic sensors. To even the most skilled of psychics, the process just appears as a star forming or going nova.
Through several experiments and innovations, the Vaul were able to scale down the size of planet forges to the point where they can be equipped to large ships and certain satellites.
